Meet The Artist.
Jamie Russell, a New York native, has nurtured her passion for the arts from an early age. Her creative journey began as the sole member of her elementary school's art club, a role that sparked her lifelong dedication to artistic expression. In high school, Jamie’s talent continued to flourish as she pursued advanced placement art courses, earning widespread recognition. Her exceptional work garnered numerous accolades and scholarships, including the esteemed Long Island "Go Ape" award.
Jamie’s dedication to her craft was further recognized when her senior class voted her “Most Artistic.” After graduating high school, she pursued her passion at SUNY Purchase College, enrolling in its esteemed art conservatory program. There, she honed her skills in drawing and painting, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree. Her studies were enriched by a deep exploration of Art History, further shaping her artistic perspective.
Why ‘Her Coloring Box?’
The title carries a layered meaning, serving as both a literal nod to an artist's color palette and a more provocative reference to feminine anatomy. The inclusion of "Her" adds a playful tone, setting the stage for the cheeky undertone that invites viewers to engage with the work. This intention is further emphasized by the strikingly vulvic logo, which visually reinforces the concept.
Jamie’s work primarily focuses on portraiture that celebrates both real and fictional women, reviving and retelling their stories from a distinctly feminine perspective. This narrative exploration began with her thesis painting, Revival of Sardanapalus — an ambitious eight-foot reimagining of Eugène Delacroix’s Death of Sardanapalus. While Delacroix’s original piece depicted the king’s ruthless slaughter of his concubines to prevent others from possessing them, Jamie’s interpretation breathes new life into these women. She transforms their wounded silhouettes into goddesses — no longer mere possessions, but powerful figures of resilience, creation, and autonomy.
Throughout her work, Jamie embraces a bold femininity, evident in her daring use of vibrant magentas and soft pastels. This celebration of womanhood, reflected in both her subject matter and artistic choices, remains a driving force behind her creative expression.

“I love Russell’s unique style and her use of color. You can tell so much emotion is behind each stroke. I promise this is the perfect addition to your space!”
